The Lovie Awards accepts five types of entries: Websites; Online Advertising, which includes digital campaigns, viral, branded content and more; Internet Video, which specifically recognises original video content premiering on the web such as documentary, branded entertainment, music & entertainment and more; Apps, Mobile, Podcasts & Voice; and Social.

Websites

The Lovie Awards recognises outstanding websites in individual and craft categories. A website may be entered into multiple categories if appropriate. Sites entered into multiple categories will be reviewed separately for each category entered. Websites entered into more than one category may win multiple awards.

Best Design – Aesthetic
Sites and experiences where visual design is intended to be beautiful, emotional, and appeal to the senses.

Best Design – Functional
Sites and experiences where visual design is intended to be beautiful, emotional, and appeal to the senses. Including sites that rely on visual design as a critical part of a functional user experience.

Best Homepage
Only home or welcome page judged. Sites that set an industry standard of excellence for Homepage design.

Best Individual Editorial Experience
Individual or multi-part article enhanced by innovative or cutting-edge design components, multimedia storytelling elements, interactivity etc.

Best Navigation & Structure
Sites that set an industry standard of excellence by offering the best-possible user experience through superior navigation and site structure. Only information architecture will be judged.

Best Practices
Best practices sites serve as an industry benchmark for the most current, innovative, and advanced practices in web development. Sites demonstrating unparalleled excellence across The Academy’s six criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, interactivity, functionality, and overall experience.

Best Use of Animation & Motion Graphics
Sites that integrate animation or motion graphics in a seamless, superior way that enhances the user experience. Only animation and motion graphics judged.

Best User Experience
Sites that offer the best user experience through innovative design and useful functionality.

Best Writing – Editorial
Sites that demonstrate excellence in editorial, whether in journalism, breaking news, opinion or blog writing, humour writing, analysis, etc. Only editorial writing will be judged in this category.

Charitable Organisations & Non-Profit
Sites for charities and charitable organisations whose primary purpose is helping people or other worthy causes.

Corporate Communications
Sites that serve as online identities for corporations, organisations, businesses or professional individuals. These sites may promote, market or provide information and a point of contact for products, services, corporate individuals or companies involved in on or offline commerce.

Cultural Institutions
Sites for museums, parks, zoos, gardens, aquariums, theatres, arenas and any other institutions of cultural significance.

Fashion & Beauty
Sites promoting personal style, clothing, design, and accessories. Including beauty products, regimes and tips. These include sites selling fashion and beauty items or promoting designers, and editorial sites with fashion and beauty news and information.

Financial Services
Sites providing financial services and/or information. These include online stock trading, financial news, mortgage information, credit cards, or investor relations and services. Does not include online banking sites.

Food & Beverage
Sites that recommend and cover the culinary world, including food culture, restaurants, recipes, and products, or promoting food and beverage products including snack foods, candy, confections, chewing gum, fresh and frozen food, soft drinks, juices, energy drinks and water. Includes recipe and recommendation sites.

Health & Fitness
Sites providing information and resources to improve personal health and well-being. These sites are dedicated to medicine, alternative medicine, medical news sites, mental health, fitness, and online diagnosis.

Lifestyle
Sites featuring commentary, commerce and advice on lifestyle and living topics such as gardening, home improvement, interior design, architecture, and like subjects. Sites touching on the personal side of life by providing information and resources that allow people to live on their own terms.

Music & Entertainment
Sites that offer digital audio or video streaming services for entertainment purposes, such as sport, music, podcasts, news and radio.

News & Politics
Sites developed for the distribution of recent happenings. These may be offshoots of established broadcast or other existing news operations, or developed specifically for online news.

Retail & Shopping
Sites providing consumers online commerce and retail sales of any products or services.

Schools & Education
Sites that are educational, promote education, or provide online curriculum or education services. This category includes educational content for children or adults, resources for educators, and “distance learning” courses. Includes school sites.

Community & Social
Sites creating and facilitating online community, connectedness and/or communication around shared interests. These sites can target either a broad-based or niche audience. They may use friend-of-friend connections to form a social network or use technology to make the connection. Includes dating and matchmaking sites.

Television & Film
Sites dedicated to television and film, including their promotion, celebration and presentation, preservation and culture. These include promotional sites, news, resources and archives devoted to television and film.

Travel & Tourism
Sites that promote travel services and information. These include online agents for purchasing tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, vacation packages, city, country or regional sites, tourist attractions, and chamber of commerce sites, and other travel services. Also includes online travel guides, travel writing, and travel tools.

Web Services & Applications
Sites, web applications and widgets allowing real world activities to be done online. These include agent or bot sites as well as application sites that help people find and edit photos, create documents, find jobs, locate houses, make dates, or which otherwise digitally facilitate typically offline activities.

Weird & Experimental
Sites that just seem strange, offbeat or odd. This category includes sites that reflect a fresh perspective in thought and action strong enough to start a revolution, change a behaviour pattern, or advance old thinking lodged in bad habits, or that are just plain weird.

Best Art Direction
Advertising where the visual style is intended to be striking, beautiful, innovative, emotional, and appeal to the senses. Only Art Direction judged.

Best Branded Editorial Experience
Best individual and multi-part stories or editorial features enhanced by the addition of innovative design components, multimedia storytelling elements and increased interactivity, created on behalf of a brand.

Best Brand Strategy & Planning
Online advertising campaigns with a clearly executed and insightful brand strategy and media plan.

Best Cause Marketing Campaign
Online campaigns that effectively raised awareness for a specific social or political cause.

Best Creative Use of Data
Best, most innovative, and effective or creative use of data-driven digital media that serves users with a personalised experience. This includes such efforts as targeted marketing messages, remarketing, etc.

Best Digital Campaign
Online campaigns must consist of at least 3 different components, all of which must have been done online. This includes email, banners, websites, online guerrilla marketing, online commercials, and mobile advertising.

Best Event Activation Campaign
Best, most innovative, and effective or creative use of an event to promote a brand, person, product, institution, or organisation.

Best Integrated Campaign
Integrated Campaigns must include at least 3 different media types, one of which must be online. In addition to online, other media types can include print, outdoor, TV, guerilla or radio.

Best PR Campaign
Best, most innovative and effective or creative use of PR to promote a brand. Can include PR launch events, influencer endorsement campaigns, cause-related campaigns and more.

Best Social Media Campaign
Social Media Campaigns that utilises one or more social media channels (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram, et al) to promote and build an organisation’s brand and community.

Best Video Campaign
Video-based campaign on behalf of a brand. Video campaigns must include 3 different components that each incorporates a video element.

Best Use of Animation & Motion Graphics
Online experiences produced on behalf of a brand that integrate animation or motion graphics in a seamless, superior way that enhances the user experience. Only animation and motion graphics judged.

Brand Microsite
Limited to a temporary website that is created for a specific purpose. Whether it promotes the brand, product or services.

Branded Content
Short films, commercials, rich media, audio and video that premiered on the Internet and promote brands, products or services for commercial purposes i.e. advertising.

Branded Game or Application
A web-based or downloadable game or application made on behalf of a client to specifically market a good, service or event.

Food & Beverage
Branded content hubs, videos, articles or native programmes that focus on food and beverage. Includes chef and restaurant profiles, recipes, culinary history etc.

Health, Wellness, Pharmaceutical
Branded content hubs, videos, articles or native programmes that promote personal health and well-being. These include medical services, prescription medicine, alternative medicine, general health and fitness.

Mobile & Experiential Marketing
The use of mobile, interactive or online components to create real-world brand immersion. This can consist of QR-code integration, NFC, interactive kiosks, GPS technology, outdoor interactive signage and other environmental marketing that prompts the user to interact with the project message or experience.

Products & Services
Branded content hubs, videos, articles or native programmes that promote products and services, including consumer packaged goods, consumer electronics, retail services etc.

Public Service & Activism
Branded content hubs, videos, articles, or native programmes that that serve to facilitate political change, public participation in civics, government policies/pursuits, or social activism.

Social Media Marketing
Best, most creative, innovative or highly effective use of online social media — websites, applications, APIs, plug-ins, etc — within an advertising or marketing campaign.

Social Video
Video advertising content delivered via social media, to both communicate and build community for a brand.

Tourism & Lifestyle
Branded content hubs, videos, articles or native programmes that promote travel and tourism destinations, including activities and attractions, accommodations and transportation.

Video Advertising Long Form
Online video ads over :30 for a brand.

Video Advertising Short Form
Online video advertisements :30 or less for a brand.

Viral Advertising An advertising and marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message. Can be graphic, text or video-based advertising.

Best, most innovative and effective or creative 360 video created on behalf of a brand or that promotes products or services.

Animation
Original cartoons, motion graphics, illustrations or digitally animated images premiered on the Internet. Individual episodes or entire series may be entered.

Animation (Branded)
Animated video content that integrates products or services on behalf of a brand in order to convey a marketing message in an entertaining way.

Best Art Direction
Internet Video in this category should appeal to the senses through unique visuals, sounds and effects that elevate the experience.

Best Editing
This category considers the craft of editing independent of genre. Technical ability, creative execution and adherence to the standards of the craft factor into consideration.

Best Narrative Experience
Best, most innovative and effective or creative use of storytelling to build a narrative in a VR experience or 360 video.

Best Use of Interactive Video
Only the interactive components of a video will be judged. Geared toward narrative and graphical elements that include selectable plot lines, choose-your-own-adventure type stories, and puts the action squarely in the hands of the user.

Comedy
Content, in short, long, or serial form, dedicated to comedy or the art of laughter, premiered on the Internet.

Comedy (Branded)
Video content dedicated to comedy or the art of laughter that integrates products or services on behalf of a brand in order to convey a marketing message.

Documentary
Single, one-time documentary films (of any length), series or shows of nonfictional documentations of reality that premiered only online.

Documentary (Branded)
Video content in the form of a documentary that promotes products or services on behalf of a brand in order to convey a marketing message.

Documentary (Video Series)
Personal or branded video channels or show series that focus solely on documentary films.

Entertainment & Sport (Branded)
Branded video channels or show series centered around the entertainment world—including film, television, music, music videos, sport, and events.

Entertainment & Sport (Video Series)
Personal or branded video channels or show series centered around the entertainment world—including movies, television, music, sport, and events.

Events & Live Broadcasts
Original content promoting specific events and webcasts including concerts, fairs, festivals, sporting events, tours, or other events premiered on the Internet. Individual episodes or entire series may be entered.

Original online video that is strange, offbeat, or odd. This category includes video that reflects a unique perspective in thought and action strong enough to start a revolution, change a behavior pattern, or advance old thinking lodged in bad habits, or that are just plain weird and experimental.

Experimental & Weird (Branded)
Video content created on behalf of a product or brand that is strange, offbeat, or odd. This is content that pushes past traditional boundaries to creatively and effectively convey a message or elicit a reaction.

Food & Drink
Original online film and video about food and drink, including chef and restaurant profiles, culinary history, recipes, reviews, etc.

Integrated Campaigns (Branded)
Integrated Campaigns must include at least 3 different media types, one of which must be video content that integrates products or services on behalf of a brand. In addition to video, other media types can include other digital media, outdoor signage, TV, print or radio.

Original internet videos exploring lifestyle content, including travel, adventure, art, health and fitness, wellness, love and relationships, etc.

Live Experiences (Branded)
Experiences filmed live that integrate a product or service on behalf of a brand — including interviews, concerts, and events — that integrates products or services in an entertaining and engaging fashion on behalf of a brand.

Long Form (Branded)
Singular online video content of at least 3 minutes that integrates products or services on behalf of a brand.

Music & Entertainment
Original online film and video dedicated to the presentation of music or entertainment.

News & Politics
Original online content, as a series or individual episode, documenting informational news topics, political happenings and recent updates and headlines.

News & Politics (Video Series)
Original online video, as a serial show, documenting informational news topics, political happenings, and recent updates and headlines.

Public Service & Activism
Original online content documenting public service issues, activism and societal concerns. Individual episodes or entire series may be entered.

Viral Video
Low-budget, homemade or accidental web phenomenon premiered on the Internet. These must be unpaid, non-commercial content.

Viral Video (Branded)
Viral video content that integrates products, services, or messages on behalf of a brand. Must have received at 50,000 views to be considered for this category.

Virtual Reality
A non-branded immersive 360 degree experience, photographed or pre-rendered CGI. Content can be cinematic, interactive, or for real-time gaming platform.

Experimental & Innovation
The use and/or implementation of groundbreaking mobile technology or unconventional applications of mobile technology in mobile websites, applications and environmental situations. Entries in this category may be theoretical, pre-production technologies pushing the boundaries and definitions of mobile experiences.

Family & Kids
Mobile sites or apps providing content related to family issues, child rearing, childhood education, family activities, family entertainment, pregnancy, parenting tips and other information. Includes apps made specifically for children’s use.

Games
Sites or apps featuring direct online gaming for individuals or multi-player. Includes games of any type including action, sports, fantasy, skill, or logic. Branded or sponsored games, sites or apps promoting, reviewing, and providing gaming resources will not be judged in this category.


Integrated Mobile Experience
Integrated Mobile Experiences must include at least 2 different media types, one of which must be designed for a mobile device. Entries should highlight unique communication between the mobile device and the additional media. Other media types can include online, print, outdoor, TV, guerrilla or radio.

Mobile sites or apps that allow real world activities to be done on the go. These include apps and mobile sites to help people find edit photos, tools, weather, find jobs, locate houses, make dates, or which otherwise facilitate typically offline activities.

Wellness & Lifestyle
Mobile sites or apps providing information and resources to improve personal health and well-being through fitness and sport, travel, mental health, medicine and alternative medicine etc.

News & Entertainment
Sites or apps developed for the distribution of recent happenings, news or entertainment content. These may be offshoots of established broadcast or other existing news operations, or developed specifically for online news, or sports, games, gossip, humor, and reviews.

Podcasts – Best Host
The host with the most: demonstrates the best qualities of hosting an online audio interview or conversation.
